Monthly Meetings

We have so much work to do reaching people in majority white communities about why racial justice will help free us too. Learn more and stay engaged at our monthly meetings, held the second Tuesday of each month in the evenings. Meetings are currently held online.
  • 7:00-7:30 pm ET: Welcome Time for new or new-ish folks--join us if you want to learn more about LSURJ in an interactive way.
  • 7:30-8:30 ET: All are welcome to learn more about getting involved in and helping plan the LSURJ part of Campaigns for Action on issues like mass incarceration and ending cash bail, policing, the city budget, and getting cops out of schools.
Register here. You can join at either 7:00 or 7:30. It is up to you! Request ASL interpretation by emailing LouisvilleSURJ@gmail.com.

Stay Involved, Join a Team

All are welcome at LSURJ events and activities, and there is a lane for everyone. Please be aware that our work and events are tailored to call white people into this movement work. Some activities are in-person and others are virtual.

If you would like to volunteer or have questions about the teams below, email LouisvilleSURJ@gmail.com with Volunteer in the subject line. Time commitment is flexible. This is long haul work, and we want it to be sustainable for everyone.

Basebuilding
The LSURJ Basebuilding Team meets the second Tuesday each month. Current efforts are centered on ending cash bail, showing up for immigrant justice, and putting an end to the targeting of poor youth and youth of color in our schools. Seeking people willing to host Zoom "house parties" with friends, families, and colleagues to hold tough conversations and people willing to knock on doors once LSURJ returns to door-to-door canvassing on the end cash bail campaign.

Door Knocking/Canvassing
The Door Knocking/Canvassing Team meets monthly during the spring, summer, and fall. Current efforts are focused on gathering support for ending cash bail in Louisville by having people sign post cards that are then delivered to local judges. (Temporarily suspended due to the pandemic).

Direct Action
Seeking people willing to plan and organize non-violent direct action trainings, recruit attendees, build and sustain a culture of security, and grow a reliable and strong rapid response network of people willing to put their bodies on the line for racial justice.

Family and Education
Seeking people interested in creating family-centered spaces for antiracism, including how to communicate with and engage children and how to engage school and educational systems.

Political Education
Seeking people excited about calling people into this work by holding education events that break down complex issues and create space for attendees to unpack their learnings and set their sights on next actions.

Community-building
Seeking people who want to support event coordination, setup, and cleanup for bi-monthly potlucks. (Potucks have been temporarily suspended due to the pandemic).

Faith
Seeking leaders and members of faith communities willing to hold powerful conversations and engage in movement-building work within your networks.

Communications
Seeking people with experience with communications work so LSURJ can build the base and effectively mobilize white people. Work includes copy writing, email newsletter management, social media, photography, graphic design, web site management, photography, and Gmail management. (Knowledge of ActionNetwork, Canva, or Weebly is helpful but not required.)

Finances and Fundraising
Seeking people willing to do behind-the-scenes reporting and data tracking so LSURJ can effectively move the majority of funds raised to BIPOC-led accountability partners in the community.

Request a Speaker/Facilitator from LSURJ

Please complete and submit this form to request a member of LSURJ to assist you/your organization as a speaker, facilitator, or event sponsor. All LSURJ members are volunteers, so please provide as much time as possible before your event. Thank you!

The beauty of anti-racism is that you don’t have to pretend to be free of racism to be an anti-racist. Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism wherever you find it, including in yourself. And it’s the only way forward."   – Ijeoma Oluo
